Michael van Gerwen has had a torrid past two nights losing out to Glen Durrant and Gary Anderson and it was so nearly three in a row for the World Number One but he is back to winning ways in the Premier League after victory over Nathan Aspinall.
Van Gerwen was 4-1 down to Aspinall before he began to find some of his top form to claim victory 8-6 in Milton Keynes. For the Stockport ace, it was 26% on the doubles which proved costly.
Aspinall like alluded to was into a 4-1 lead and many would have thought that Mighty Mike would have been in trouble at this point. Van Gerwen though took out 100 to make it 4-2 and broke throw in a pivotal moment to make it 4-3.
On throw he made it 4-4, he took the lead with a break of throw once more with four consecutive legs for the World Number One.
'The Asp' stopped the rot breaking back at 5-5 but couldn't do much with it as Van Gerwen regained it straight away with a 68 checkout. The former missed a dart at double 16 and this handed Van Gerwen at least a point.
Aspinall asked the question with an 81 checkout for a 12-darter and to make it 7-6 but Van Gerwen won through in the end in a sigh of relief for the defending champion.
