"Darts Orakel," a social media account focused on various data and statistics, has conducted an interesting thought experiment. It explored what the best all-time selection of the
Premier League Darts would look like based on the averages for each year.
For this top eight, only players who reached the playoffs that year and achieved the highest average during the regular season were considered. It’s important to note, however, that not every year had the same number of match days.
In first place, we find
Phil Taylor. He won the Premier League Darts in 2012 and achieved an average of 107.95 during the regular season. Close behind him is
Michael van Gerwen, who posted an average of 107.93 in the regular season of the 2016 Premier League Darts. Van Gerwen would go on to win that edition of the Premier League, defeating Phil Taylor 11-4 in the playoffs final.
In third place is
Gary Anderson, with an average of 102.16 in the 2017 edition. Anderson was eliminated in the semifinals that year, losing 10-7 to Van Gerwen.
Fourth place goes to
Dave Chisnall. 'Chizzy' finished second in the regular season in 2015, with an average of 101.39. He was ultimately defeated in the semifinals by Anderson, losing 10-9. In fifth place is
Luke Humphries. 'Cool Hand Luke' ended last year with an average of 100.46 and lost in the final to
Luke Littler.
Luke Littler ranks seventh in this list
Sixth place is taken by
Jose de Sousa. In his only appearance at the Premier League Darts, in 2021, he reached the final and posted an average of 100.08 during the regular season. In seventh place is Littler, who, in his debut year in 2024, won the Premier League Darts with a regular season average of 99.20.
This list is rounded off by
Rob Cross. 'Voltage' achieved an average of 99.69 in the 2019 edition's regular season and made it to the final, where he lost 11-5 to Michael van Gerwen.
