Dimitri Van den Bergh remains in with a chance of taking the overall victory at the 2024 Nordic Darts Masters. 'The Dreammaker,' who also managed to win the tournament in 2022, defeated Dennis Nilsson in the opening round.
Van den Bergh impressed with an over 96 average. "I felt that I was really in a slow start. But once I was hitting them 180s back at him, I just started to get running," reflected the Belgian post-match, in conversation with Online Darts. "Once I started to laugh and I started to enjoy I hit a 12 dart leg on a 114, the next leg I hit a 105 finish and it just took me to a relaxed position.
Returning to the World Series of Darts, the 29-year-old Belgian is dreaming of more success in Copenhagen. "It's always amazing to be participating as a player that the PDC choose. It's an honor that they give you," Van den Bergh explains. "I was allowed to play in Holland, I'm here now playing in Denmark and I'm doing good."
When it comes to the World Cup of Darts that is scheduled for the end of this month in Frankfurt however, the Belgian is a lot more uncertain. Van den Bergh has in recent years for Belgium invariably formed a duo with Kim Huybrechts, however, it is still not yet known whether the latter will be able to perform after he suffered a double collarbone fracture during an incident at the Belgian Cup final a few weeks ago.
"The only thing I can say is that I've got no knowledge," he explains of the uncertainty surrounding the current situation with Huybrechts. "Our contracts with the PDC states that you need to prove you are at 100% ability. There is a reason it says to be confirmed."
