Rob Cross has very convincingly qualified for the quarter-finals of the
Nordic Darts Masters. 'Voltage' was 6-4 too strong for Jeffrey de Graaf in the first round.
The winner of the most recent
World Series of Darts tournament at the US Darts Masters in New York last time out, Cross continued his excellent form with an average of 108.19. Despite his brilliance however, Voltage was made to work for his win as a very game Jeffrey de Graaf gave almost as good as he got, averaging 102.25 himself. When the Dutch/Swede got his big chance in leg 10 however, De Graaf was unable to nail the bull or mop up the remaining 25 after Cross missed three clear darts for the match, allowing the former world champion to return again and this time the Englishman made no mistake, nailing double 8 for the 6-4 win.
“I was very focused tonight and I needed to be,” Cross said in his post-match interview, having fired in legs of 15, 11, 14, 14 and 13 darts en route to his victory. “In my opinion Jeffrey was the toughest opponent I could have drawn. He’s been in very good form and credit to him, he caused me a lot of problems."
Cross took the title in New York at the US Darts Masters
Cross seems to be feeling excellent in his skin in recent weeks, as he was the best at the US Darts Masters in New York last week. "I’m enjoying my darts and I’ve got a swagger about me right now. I just want to perform and I just want to win, so life is good at the moment," he admits happily.
In the quarter finals later on this Saturday night, Cross takes on Stephen Bunting, who was just about too strong for Daniel Larsson in the opening round 6-5, in an all-English duel.
