THROWBACK VIDEO: Lowe defeats Warriner in last World Championship final before split

With the BDO World Darts Championship not taking place this month due to the organisation’s demise, DartsNews looks back at classic moments and matches throughout January from the showpiece event.

Onto an important year in the history of the BDO and that was 1993 and the final World Championship before the split to the WDC later the PDC.

By this point, the WDC had sort of broke away already with their first tournament being won by Mike Gregory in October of the previous year.

During the tournament, the 16 players released a statement saying they would only play in the following year if it came under the WDC banner which is when the split occurred.

There were upsets aplenty with Eric Bristow losing to Bob Anderson, while defending champion Phil Taylor lost to Kevin Spoilek.

While John Lowe went onto beat Alan Warriner in the final and claimed the last unified World title in darts in an important year.
