Anderson defeats Van Gerwen in last leg thriller as semi-final line up finalised at Champions League

Gary Anderson has seen off Michael van Gerwen in a thriller to end the group stages at the Champions League.
This ended Daryl Gurney’s hopes of moving into the semi-finals. 'Superchin' beat Dave Chisnall earlier this afternoon, so Anderson knew he had to defeat Van Gerwen to reach the knockout stage.
The Scotsman took a convincing 8-3 lead against the Dutchman, but 'Mighty Mike' raffled off three straight legs to reduce the deficit to 8-6. A great timed 11-dart leg from Anderson, saw him moving one leg away from victory, however once again Van Gerwen won three legs on the spin to force a legdecider.
Van Gerwen kicked off the legdecider with a 174-score and left 76 after fifteen darts, but missed two match-darts. Anderson stepped in and fired a 140 checkout in the dartboard to take the win.

It's great to have someone with Vincent's exprience address this issue, so hopefully clearer and stricter guidlelines can be given to referees, security and members of the crowd. - I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. I no longer play now, darts is as good as dead at a local level round my way but when i did play many years ago, no matter how intense the rivalry you never shouted out or whistled when an opponent from the other team was throwing for a double.Mysstree17-11-2024
