Bernie Smith was brilliant in his preliminary round victory over Xiao Chen Zong and will play Justin Pipe in Round 1. He ended it all with a 146 checkout to give 'The Force' something to think about ahead of their game later this evening.
In the first set, Bernie started off with a 14 and a 15 darter before closing the set out with a 96.7 average, but 80,74 and 146 checkouts after a tops from the Chinese qualifier made the difference and allowed him to sail through to round 1.
In the end, Smith averaged 87 to Zong's 86 and so it was close in that regard but it was comprehensive for the Kiwi who like alluded to we will see again later.

- It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). - Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media. I even turned to my husband and said "Could you imagine this happening if Russ Bray was the referee tonight? At least there would have been a crowd admonishment- Ladies and Gentleman please."
