Leading the charge to the Alexandra Palace are the top four names from the new
PDC Asian Tour. The Tour has proved wildly successful in Asia, and it was after some tough competition that four players rose to the top. Lourence Ilagan will make his World Championship return. So too will the legendary Paul Lim, albeit after a much shorter one-year wait. Nine-dart hero Noel Malicdem will be at the World Championship, along with PDC Tour Card holder Royden Lam.
Seigo Asada is the fifth Asian player confirmed, having won the PDJ Japanese qualifier. Oceania will be represented by Australian Order of Merit winner Raymond Smith and New Zealand qualifier Tahuna Irwin.
A portion of the European spots have now been doled out. Darius Labanauskas and Daniel Larsson have been rewarded for a strong year on the Nordic and Baltic Tour with Ally Pally spots. Yordi Meeuwisse is the West Europe qualifier, while South-West Europe qualifier Jose de Sousa will be back at the Ally Pally for the first time in seven years. Karel Sedlacek represents East Europe, and Rowby-John Rodriguez emerges from the South-East Europe qualifiers.
After his win over Mick McGowan in Dublin, Kevin Burness will appear as the Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay champion. Chuck Puleo, Jeff Smith and Jim Long will fly the flag for North America, with Diogo Portela appearing once again as South American champion.
There are 14 qualifiers yet to be confirmed. That includes two female qualifiers for the first time in the tournament's history.
