"A late Christmas present for Damon Heta" - Berry van Peer laments missed opportunities in defeat at World Darts Championship

Berry van Peer could not continue his sensational World Darts Championship debut Friday afternoon. Despite a good start, 'Bionic' lost 4-3 in sets to Damon Heta in the last 32.

''Shitty game,'' Van Peer commented tellingly after the match. ''You get ahead 2-0 and then you just have to finish it, done. I just couldn't find a treble anymore. Very unfortunate. After the 3-3 I thought: get your own set, fine, but even then it didn't work out. In the end it was just a bad match", Van Peer said.

According to Van Peer, this was a great opportunity to reach the quarterfinals of the World Darts Championship. Had the Dutchman won over Heta, he would have faced Scott Williams in the last 16. ''There were a lot of chances there. Last time against Williams it was a win for me, but now it's not Scott Williams but my own bench.... I blew it myself. A late Christmas present for Damon Heta while Christmas is already over," Van Peer stated.

The 27-year-old darter from Sprundel secretly already dreamed of a clash with Michael van Gerwen in the quarterfinals. ''If I had won twice I would have to play against Van Gerwen. That would be funny, but the simple thing about darts is: you shouldn't have too much on your mind. That's when you throw best."
