Gary Anderson and Peter Wright did not let the Philippines surprise them at the World Cup of Darts. It was not easy, but the win went 8-5 to the Scottish duo.
This was mainly thanks to a strong playing Gary Anderson. In his scoring turns, 'The Flying Scotsman' recorded an average of 104, and on top of that he also threw a finishing percentage of 55%. Wright threw only 89 average in the scoring turns, and a finishing percentage of 29%.
But Filipinos Lourence Ilagan and Christian Perez also showed well with an average of 88. A moment in the 12th leg ended up being the deciding factor in this match.
The Philippines left 46 and hoped to throw for the 6-6, but Anderson decided otherwise and fired a delicious 141 finish into the board. That made it 7-5, before clinching the win with a 14-darter.
The two Scots will play Thibault Tricole and Jacques Labre from France in the quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon. Earlier in the afternoon, Australia (Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock) and Sweden (Dennis Nilsson & Oskar Lukasiak) also made it to the last eight in Frankfurt.
On Saturday evening, the four final matches from the second round will be played. Dutch duo Danny Noppert and Dirk van Duijvenbode will then face Belgians Dimitri van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts. Top seed England start their tournament against Latvia, while hosts Germany face Poland. Title favourite Wales crosses swords with Denmark.
