Kyle Anderson relinquished his Tour Card recently to remain in Australia after staying at home since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Anderson, a former Auckland Darts Master, made a decision after competing in the DPA bubble and admitted it was on the cards for a while.
"I've been thinking about handing the card in for the last three or four months to be honest. After finding out the wife being pregnant and it wasn't good to get back because of the Covid situation right now, it wasn't really a hard decision in any way," said Anderson to Online Darts.
"I was talking about giving the game up in the 2021 season anyway if everything was fine but it just happened that Covid happened and it was time to head off."
"Me and Mac (Elkin) have been speaking for a couple of months about if and when or what if I'm gonna be able to come back and when I went to the darts on the weekend, I enjoyed the weekend of social darts. I sat down with the boys and said I'm handing my card in, a lot of boys said I'm stupid doing it but when I told them the reasons, they all nodded their head in agreement and said it was for the best probably."
As well as the aforementioned reasons, Anderson explained that the travel restrictions due to Covid-19 were a major factor and that he wasn't a fan either of playing in the Series events to be playing once every few months instead of being in constant action.
"There was sort of travel restrictions coming from our end to go back to England, there was the extra added cost because I wasn't going to go back for let's say three to six months for a tournament when you're only playing four to five days in a row and you've got nothing for no-one knows how long."
He will still compete on the DPA circuit and said that while he never says never on a return, if he is, it will likely be playing in the World Championship or World Series.
"I'm still going to play back home, there's no stopping me there. I don't know what the future holds, I'm up for a return to the World's, the World Series."
