Erik Clarys has been active for several years as a co-commentator during major darts tournaments on Belgian TV channel VTM. The Sheriff has now launched a book.
The book is titled 'Just Darts'. "Right on my 54th birthday. Pure coincidence," Clarys laughs to HLN. "The book is actually a big workshop, with tips & tricks you can't read anywhere else. It contains all kinds of things, including passages on calculation, posture, training exercises, mental games, choice of material, how to turn pro... Youth and women are also covered. As a beginner darter, this book will be of great use to you, but it will also definitely be of use to the pros."
The book contains nine chapters in total. "If the book catches on, they want to release an English version as well. Who knows, maybe this will become a springboard for a currently unknown darter. Just imagine someone getting hold of the darts bug through this book and so a top talent emerges. A new Dimitri Van den Bergh or Kim Huybrechts. That would be the dream scenario."
But how did Clarys actually get the idea to write a book? "I was asked by publisher Lannoo whether I was interested in collaborating on a series about lesser-known sports, to highlight them. I agreed, as I have written columns in the past. I started typing and pretty soon reached 20,000 words. 'That might be a bit much,' was my response. When I start writing or telling about darts, I can't stop."
