Danny Noppert has qualified for the quarterfinals of the European Championship. The Dutchman defeated his Belgian opponent Mike de Decker 10-6.
Noppert started the match excellently by throwing out a great 124-finish in the first leg. The second leg also went easily to the Dutchman via double 6, where Decker was not even on a finish.
'The Freeze' continued to finish fantastic early in the match, throwing a 116 finish to lead 0-3 while the Belgian was waiting on tops. In leg 4, De Decker also finally managed to get on the board via the next 100+ finish. 'The Real Deal' then managed to hold as well via a 14-darter, bringing the score to 2-3 going into the first break.
The trend of 100+ finishes continued even after the break. Noppert threw out 117 in the sixth leg to create another two-leg difference. This was already the third finish above 100 for the Dutchman. Decker responded strongly, however, and got back to 3-4 with an 81 finish.
Last year's semifinalist continued to throw consistently and extended his lead to 3-6 via an 11-darter and a 13-darter. In leg 10, De Decker managed to take another leg back via double 12, making it 4-6.
After the second break in the match, Noppert continued what he had been doing all game: finishing strong. 'The Freeze' threw a 13-darter via tops, on which he was flawless to this point, to win the 11th leg. In leg 12, Noppert missed a dart on tops for the first time to lead 4-8. Decker took advantage and narrowed his deficit slightly.
However, the man from Friesland made no mistakes and then managed to win 2 legs in a row, leaving him one leg away from victory. 'The Real Deal' managed to take another leg, but in the end it was Noppert who managed to win the match via a 70-finish. Noppert will face the winner of the match between Andrew Gildiing and Ricardo Pietreczko in the quarterfinals.
