Gary Anderson secured a spot in the second round of the
Grand Slam of Darts last Tuesday. With that, "The Flying Scotsman" maintained his unique streak, because in his seventeen participations at the Grand Slam he never exited in the group stage.
The Scot became group winner in Group G after three wins, beating Ryan Joyce (5-1), Michael van Gerwen (5-4) and Noa-Lynn van Leuven (5-4). Especially in his opening game against Joyce, Anderson left a rock-solid impression with an average of 113.20.
Since Anderson is in the bottom of the bracket, he had no tournament obligations Wednesday. So the two-time world champion had a day off, but it was by no means a day of rest. “I need to get to a glasses shop and get these changed.
“I’ve had new glasses for the last two nights and the varifocals are too high. I did go to Specsavers to get these!
“They just don’t seem right. They are on a curve. When I throw a dart I’ve got to stand a look at the treble and until it’s clear so I’ve got no idea.
“So tomorrow (Wednesday) emergency. Any free Specsavers glasses going about? I shouldn’t need varifocals because they are strong.
“The old ones were varifocals but I played with them for two years and they were alright.”
