Gian van Veen snatches record from Phil Taylor after monster average at European Championship Darts

Gian van Veen made a big impression on Friday night by scoring an average of 107.34 in his debut match at the European Championship Darts. He completely outplayed Damon Heta 6-1.
He hit checkouts of 70, 72 and 144, among others, and also notched two 12-darters to knock the number six seed from the tournament.

His average of 107.34 was good enough for a new record. Never before had a debutant managed to throw such a high average in his first match at the European Darts Championship. The old record stood in the name of Phil Taylor. 'The Power' threw an average of 105.98 in his first match at the 2008 European Darts Championship, when the event was first scheduled.

- No matter the competition she faces, when she's retired she can say "I was a multiple Women's World Champion" rather than "I repeatedly got knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round at the PDC World Champs." As a female why wouldn't she want to be a women's world champ? Darts players want to win surely? Her average on the women's tour was 84.86 which would've placed her in 152nd on the Pro Tour, she's wise enough to know that as it stands women still can't compete with the men apart from the odd win here and there mainly on the challenge tour.
