Dimitri van den Bergh will be introduced as the reigning
World Matchplay champion as he makes his debut at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool having won it in Milton Keynes last year.
Since then, Van den Bergh has moved to the UK and settled over here and he discussed what life has been like.
"No complaints, I'm here for the career. At the end of the day, the days just go by and now and then we try and do something to enjoy England and go for walks. The only thing that's difficult is missing the family but besides that, everything seems good," said Van den Bergh to The Darts Show podcast.
Being introduced as champion
In terms of being introduced as the reigning champion, he doesn't know how it will feel but if it's anything like when he was World Youth Champion, he said it will be a goosebump moment.
"I have been introduced as the current World Youth champion in front of a crowd and that gave me goosebumps but this time it's going to be at the Winter Gardens in front of a crowd. I don't know, I think again it's going to be one of those goosebump moments. A lot of proudness knowing that hard work you put in can get paid off."
Matchplay memories and debut excitement
In terms of his World Matchplay memories, he discussed watching certain players over the years and being enthralled.
"I've watched it every year, especially the years that Kim was playing. Look to the games between Phil (Taylor) and Adrian (Lewis), that always was majestic, electric, it was insane. Phil has a lot of games that he has a huge 100 average. Besides that you've got Rob (Cross) winning it, Peter (Wright) going to the final, Michael (van Gerwen) hitting a nine-darter there."
But for Van den Bergh, it's a venue he has only heard good things about going into his debut.
"I'm definitely very excited. I only hear a lot of good things about the venue and many players say Winter Gardens is their favourite venue. I'm very curious to how it will feel for me."
