Saturday at 1 p.m. the second edition of the WDF Lakeside World Championship gets underway. On the program today are 12 matches from the first round; eight from the men's tournament and four women's matches.
The opening match of Lakeside 2023 is between Scott Marsh and Sebastian Bialecki. Notably, the latter is no stranger. Bialecki made his debut at last year's PDC World Darts Championship and even made the quarterfinals of the 2022 UK Open. This year, the 19-year-old Pole managed to win two tournaments on the PDC Development Tour.
Later in the afternoon, Aaron Turner and Dennis Nilsson, among others, will appear on stage. They will face off with Ricky Nauman and Jordan Brooks, respectively.
In the evening session, James Richardson is the big name. 'Ruthless,' who won against Raymond van Barneveld at the PDC World Championship 12 years ago, will battle Christian Goedl of Austria. Then it's Aletta Wajer who starts her tournament against Paula Jacklin as also Arjan Konterman will meet Danny Porter for a spot in the second round.
In addition, Laura Turner will play Lorraine Hyde in the women's tournament. Jonny Tata, who impressed at the World Series last summer, will make his Lakeside debut against Scottish darter Shaun McDonald.
This year's tournament is mainly shown online with streams through the channels of the WDF, Winmau and Tungsten Tales the live streams will be made available as well as Ayozat TV on Sky an their website.
The total prize fund for the WDF Lakeside World Championship includes £257,000 in prize money. That is a lot less than in 2022, when £300,000 was paid out.
The main prize for the winner of the men's and women's tournament did remain the same. The winner in the men's will take home 50,000 pounds in prize money. The winner in the women's will receive a check for 25,000 pounds.
