INTERVIEW - Murschell works with new friends on darts career: 'World Championship is my goal'

Dawson Murschell is one of the new Tour Card holders on the PDC circuit this year. However, the Canadian is not a new face. He participated in the World Series tournament in Las Vegas, where Murschell caused a surprise by eliminating James Wade.

'Awesome Dawson' then decided to take part in the PDC Q-School, where he won a Tour Card in January. After resolving his VISA, Murschell moved to the United Kingdom to continue working on his dart career. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old Canadian has played on the Pro Tour circuit for three months. Murschell already notes that he is in a learning process, he says in an interview with . ''There is definitely a big learning curve and things I wasn’t expecting. I’m still learning but I’m getting more comfortable as time goes on. I'm learning a lot of things just about certain players and people. You learn who is who very quickly.'' Recently the brand new Tour Card holder made his first success on the PDC Pro Tour by qualifying for the European Darts Grand Prix. This will be his debut on the Euro Tour for Murschell. ''It was pretty intense. Just because I know I’m right on the edge of World Cup of Darts qualification as well, and the £1000 guaranteed from that will go a long way to help securing my spot. Alan (Norris) missed a dart at a 104 in the last leg and I checked a 120 in response, which was pretty exhilarating.'' ''My big goal is qualifying for the World Championship in December. That’s definitely my main overall goal. When it comes to short term goals, I’m just treating it one match at a time and beating as many people as I can.'' ''The North American Championship would be the first step. But I’d love to get through the Pro Tour Order of Merit. I know I’m capable of playing the darts to get there. I’m used to life in the UK now and playing great darts.'' Murschell is currently settled in St. Helens, the place where top-class dart players like Michael Smith, Dave Chisnall and Stephen Bunting come from. Especially from 'The Bullet', 'Awesome Dawson' has a lot of support. ''I’ve made some great friends on tour. Stephen (Bunting) and his family have been amazing when it came to helping me move over and being a great practice partner. They’ve really helped make the transition easier.'' ''There’s definitely a big difference between home and here, but I’m slowly getting used to it. I also tend to get pretty lonely and depressed when I’m on my own and not doing anything, so it’s been great to have him around. Plus, I just got a kitten so that’s been fun and good company around the apartment during the week.''
