Kim Huybrechts ready to perform at UK Open: 'After a poor year I want to climb on the ranking'

The UK Open in Minehead kicked off on Friday. Kim Huybrechts received a bye into the fourth round and plays his first match in the evening session.

Huybrechts had a poor 2018 by his standards, but showed signs of improvement during the first six Pro Tour events this year. The Belgian is clear about his goals for this season, he told in an interview. ''I want to climb on the ranking, as I had a serious drop after last year. I want to qualify for as many Euro Tour events and majors as possible.'' The two-time major-finalist likes to play at the UK Open as he is a fan of the format at the FA Cup of Darts. ''It's a nice tournament, mainly because of the open draw without seeded players. The leg-system (best of 19 legs) suits me well and I like the multi-board room.'' If it was up to Huybrechts, he would prefer to play on the small stages. ''I prefer to play there, because the crowd is very close behind you. This means you can have more interaction with the people who support you.''
