Originally an English pub sport, darts has since developed the sport into a global one. That there are more nationalities competing at the upcoming World Darts Championship than English players is proof of that.
In recent years, the number of English participants at the World Darts Championship has been declining steadily. At the upcoming edition, only 26 of the 96 participants still have the English nationality. A total of 28 different nationalities will be on display at Alexandra Palace. That is one more than last year, but still three less than at the 2022 World Darts Championship. Back then, as many as 34 English nationals participated.
England have 26 in all while Netherlands will compete with sixteen darters at the World Darts Championship 2025. Never before have so many Dutch players competed in Ally Pally. Also for the first time a Dutch lady is participating in the most important tournament of the year. Behind the Netherlands, Germany and Wales each have six darters active at the World Darts Championship, followed by the Philippines, Northern Ireland and Scotland, all with four players.
Three players are competing on behalf of Australia, Belgium and Ireland. Canada, Japan and the United States are the other three countries with more than one participant. They are all sending two players to London.
Japan, France, Hong Kong, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, India, New Zealand, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the Bahamas have one player from their countries present. There are two more milestones, as never before has a darter from Switzerland and the Bahamas competed at the World Darts Championship.
