Lewis sent packing at the Palace

Adrian Lewis, 2 time world champion is out of the 2018 World Championships. Qualifier Kevin Munch, completed one of the biggest first round upsets in world championship history by beating Lewis, who now faces an incredibly tough year on tour, as he provisionally drops out of the top 16.
Munch, who qualified via the German Superleague playoffs, chucked in a total 8 180's and 3 ton plus finishes including a 158, as he sent home the 7th seed. The biggest casualty of the event so far.
All looked well for Jackpot, taking the opening set 3-1. A 12 darter with a 121 finish the highlight.
Lewis continued to dominate on the board, leading 2-0 in the second set, but back to back 15 darters saw Munch claw his way back into the set. The German beginning to find his range on the treble. Munch sealed the set with an 18 darter, Lewis dropping back in a crucial leg that ultimately let Munch back in.
Munch became a juggernaut in the third set, impossible to stop. He threw 4 180's in 3 legs as he closed the set to nil. Using just 42 darts to wrap up the set in super quick time. That feat even more impressive when you consider it was a set that Lewis held the darts.
The Dragon would take the 4th set 3-2 to seal the match. Both players holding throw, with Lewis unable to pressure Munch enough to force a break. The natural scoring power that we have become so used to attributing to Lewis' game evading him when he needed it the most.
Munch will now face either Cristo Reyes or Antonio Alcinas in the second round. A clash that will see one of the 3 progress to the last 16. Who would have believed that before a dart was thrown?
