Peter Wright survived two match darts from Stephen Bunting who should of won the match. 'Snakebite' played his get out of jail free card to make it through to play Mervyn King in a very good match with high averages and lots of drama from both men.
Bunting started well taking out 64 to break the throw of Peter Wright in the opening leg. He continued his brilliant start taking out 76 to go on the verge of taking the first set.
Wright held his throw in a leg that included his first maximum and he pinned D6 to go 2-1 behind. It was Bunting though who secured the first set with 'The Bullet' taking out 78 to move ever closer to another big name being dumped out.
Wright came back and pinned D18 to break and win the opening leg of the second set. 'Snakebite' continued to claw back hitting D16 for a 2 leg lead. He then finished off the set without reply to send it to a decider.
Bunting started to claw back himself with the former Lakeside champion hitting D8 to lead in the decider and break. He then put himself on the verge of the shock pinning D4 for a 2-0 lead.
Wright though held his throw with 'The Bullet' only getting away on his 9th dart meaning Bunting was under pressure to win it on his throw.
Wright couldn't get away but Bunting missed two shots at his unfavoured side of the board D16 which made Wright the favourite to pull it back and win.
