Phil Taylor started his final Grand Slam campaign with a win over Peter Machin. He defeated the current World Trophy champion 5-1 in a game where he wasn't troubled and you have to think due to James Wade losing 5-1 he should get through the group easily now which is good news for the Power who will probably have to overcome the likes of MVG and Raymond van Barneveld to win the tournament.
Speaking of van Gerwen, he easily defeated Ross Montgomery with an 100 average and 55% on the doubles in a 5-1 win. 'The Boss' might have had a 97.25 average but his shortcoming on the doubles allowed Mighty Mike to surpass the BDO stalwart and move through to the winners game tomorrow against Rob Cross which should be a brilliant encounter between the world's best and one of the best up and coming talents in the game.
