Robert Thornton WMP17 2
The fourth match of the evening was between Kim Huybrechts and Robert Thornton, Huybrechts who has had a pretty good 18 months compared to Thornton who has had a really poor 18 months since winning the tournament back in 2015.
It was the Hurricane who started brilliantly coasting to a set lead winning 3-0 to move halfway towards the finishing line which underlined Thornton's poor form.
The Thorn returned from the break and got his first leg on the board and some good darts from the former champion allowed him a 2-0 lead.
A poor leg from Thornton allowed Huybrechts to break the throw of the Scot. Thornton though won 3-1 to force a deciding set.
Thornton continued on and took the lead for the first time breaking the Huybrechts throw in the deciding set and then took out a spectacular 157 out to make it 2-0 and move on the verge of a shock win for the Scot.
After a poor leg of darts from Thornton, Huybrechts took out 72 to take it to a deciding leg. The Thorn came through the thriller with the Hurricane by hitting tops to win 2-1.
