West edges past King and North smashes White as European Championship begins in Dortmund

Steve West and Richard North are the first two players through to Round Two at the European Championship seeing off Mervyn King and Ian White respectively.
West smashed in a 106 finish to edge past King in a deciding leg. ‘The King’ wired the bull for a 126 checkout to complete the win himself.
It was a 94.15 average with five 180’s as ‘Simply’ completed a brilliant first round win.
North on the other hand smashed the number four seed Ian White in a 6-1 victory with a 93 average for the Hampshire ace who took advantage of a poor performance from ‘Diamond’.

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
