Whitlock saw off Steve Beaton firstly in a classy display with a 128 checkout the highlight. Also he hit a 101 average and 75% on the doubles as The Wizard aims to stake his claim.
This will be for both the title and of course the Premier League which he will be aiming to stay involved in.
Speaking of the Premier League, the runner up Smith also put in a brilliant performance as he grabbed a victory over Steve Lennon.
This was a close contest at times with Lennon streaking ahead only for ‘Bully Boy’ to turn on the afterburners and grab the win.
It was a 100 average for the St Helens ace as he grabbed the last four legs in winning.
