"Apart from me of course, it's hard to write off Michael van Gerwen": Beaton predicts potential PDC World Darts Championship winner

Steve Beaton recently spoke to Tungsten Tales and also took part in their eight Ally Pally questions segment asked to all players interviewed.

Among those asked was most memorable moment and he described one which was memorable but for all the wrong reasons but one he will always remember.

"Probably when I lost to James Wade a good few years ago. It come down to the last set, I think it was 3-3, 1-1 in legs. I bust this stupid score, he was 200+ and I think I wanted 122. I remember I went treble 20 and treble 15 and then went for a big one and bust it. I think he hit 140 or 180 and I have to checkout again back on this 122 and he pegged it out and it was 1-1 and he went on to win it. I'll never forget that," he said to Tungsten Tales.

He was also asked what makes it so special and he spoke on the party atmosphere as well as the players all wanting to win it and all have the belief.

"It's Christmas so everyone's having fun, they're all dressing up and everyone just seems to have a great day and watch some darts. It's the one that everyone wants to win, I won it once, a long time ago but that was a dream come true for me."

But who does Beaton believe will win the World Championship. Apart from himself, he believes that it's hard to look past one player.

"There's no easy draws so you've got to go in with the attitude that whoever you play you've got to play well.

"Apart from me of course, it's hard to write off Michael van Gerwen if I don't win it but who knows there could be a new name on that trophy."
