Jonny Clayton produced an exceptional display to draw with
Peter Wright on the opening night of the 2021
Premier League Darts and begin his debut campaign.
Clayton was seen by many as one to watch coming into his maiden foray in the Premier League and he showed why defying a flawless 6/6 on the doubles from Wright hitting a 105.5 average in the process to draw 6-6.
Clayton made a great start to life in the Premier League taking out 76 for an immediate break of throw and advantage against Wright.
Wright responded with a 95 checkout for 1-1 though to immediately peg him back but this continued on with Clayton hitting 81 for a 12-darter.
Wright pinned 67 on double 20 from there to level it up at 2-2 with a 108 average to Clayton's 102.
But this pattern only continued to 3-3 with Clayton taking out 72 but Wright produced two ton plus checkouts in a row in 106 and 138 to go two clear and suddenly towards a guaranteed point at 5-3.
Clayton replied with a ton plus salvo of his own smashing in a 129 on the bull for a 12-darter and a 5-4 deficit which meant he was throwing for 5-5 to leave it poised.
After missing two darts, he pinned double eight to make it 5-5 and do just that. But Wright assured himself of a point after Clayton missed the bull for a 161 checkout, 'Snakebite' returned with a 76 checkout to make it 6/6 on the doubles.
A 140 began Clayton's throw as he looked to make it two draws in a row. He followed that up with a 180 but Wright got himself down to 138.
He couldn't get a shot at it though and Clayton pinned double 12 for a draw from the 78 checkout to conclude a great debut.
