Jonny Clayton will take on Jose de Sousa when The
Masters begins this evening at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes but he didn't even know he was in the field.
Clayton revealed in an interview with Online Darts that he didn't know the field was expanded until former World Champion, Mark Webster told him.
"He spoke and said something like you're a jammy git that you're in the Masters even though I'd fallen out of the top 16. I said don't be daft Mark, I'm the one that can't count," said Clayton to Online Darts.
"He said no Jonny, it's moved to top 24 so I had a smile on my face. I genuinely didn't know."
The Price effect
His World Cup partner, Gerwyn Price achieved darting destiny by becoming the new World Champion to begin 2021 and he hopes it will reap long reaching rewards.
"The darts that Gezzy has played, the stats show that he is probably one of the greatest Welsh darts players. A lot of us have tried and are still trying, he has done Wales proud definitely."
"Hopefully there will be a lot more things coming from that World Championship win like maybe we might have a major in Wales."
On what major he would want to head to Wales, Clayton said that he'd potentially like The Masters or the Grand Slam to move.
"London will never change the World Championship, Blackpool is brilliant, maybe the Masters, maybe the Grand Slam one of them would be nice."
