Cross ahead of World Matchplay tie against Dobey: ‘I reckon it’s the strongest Matchplay we’ve ever seen’

Rob Cross will take on Chris Dobey in the opening round of the World Matchplay and he spoke ahead of it saying that for him he believes it’s the strongest field ever.
Cross said about Dobey that for him he’s a dangerous opponent and that he’s going to have to be on his toes when he takes on ‘Hollywood’.
"I love the place. It's unique," he said of the Winter Gardens to the Darts Show podcast. "The crowd is unique and it's a fantastic venue to go in and play. It's just an amazing place, you can't explain it.
"The fans are so respectful there, everything is amazing. They all watch the darts. You can tell by the fans' reaction, they're all watching it. It's just an amazing venue and I can't wait to go back."
"Chris is a dangerous opponent. I'm going to have to be on my toes," added Cross.
"If you look the draw this year, I reckon it's the strongest Matchplay we've ever seen, or I've ever seen anyway."

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. I no longer play now, darts is as good as dead at a local level round my way but when i did play many years ago, no matter how intense the rivalry you never shouted out or whistled when an opponent from the other team was throwing for a double.Mysstree17-11-2024

If you want to see crowd passion... watch a match when German and Dutch players face off... that can be just as bad if not worse for crowd noises. It happens, I have watched and heard Littler being jeered - Dirk van Duijvenbode in Holland, January this year. Where was your outrage then?
