"Did I do it on purpose? No. It was in the heat of the moment" - Jermaine Wattimena clarifies incident with Joe Cullen at Dutch Darts Championship

Jermaine Wattimena has qualified for the second round of the Dutch Darts Championship. 'The Machine Gun' defeated Joe Cullen 6-5 in the opening round.

Wattimena and Cullen were involved in a particularly exciting game in Rosmalen. Afterwards, however, their were unsavoury scenes as the duo were involved in an on-oche spat. "He didn't give a hand and then I made a move. Did I do it on purpose? No. It was in the heat of the moment. Sorry to Joe Cullen, it was not the intention," Wattimena said post-match to AD.nl. "I understand he's upset, because you just can't do this, I know what I'm doing wrong. Hopefully he understands. I'm not happy about it."

Wattimena takes on Ricardo Pietreczko in the second round

Wattimena will take on German Ricardo Pietreczko in the second round today. In the past, the latter has struggled to deal with hostile crowds. With the Dutch Darts Championship sure to be backing their compatriot Wattimena on Saturday, it will be interesting to see how Pietreczko fares.

"They may well boo him, because he always whines when they boo at him," Wattimena laughed. "I also sometimes said to him myself that he whines too much. Huge numbers of Euro Tours are in Germany, but if there is one whistle against him he acts childish. He shouldn't do that. He needs to mature a little bit, something I had to learn myself."

A possible Dutch duel awaits Wattimena afterwards. If he wins against Pietreczko, he will take on the winner of the match between Danny Noppert and Andrew Gilding in the third round.
