Dimitri van den Bergh punishes wasteful Wade as Chris Dobey begins Masters title defence with win

Dimitri van den Bergh and Chris Dobey have both successfully progressed to round 2 at the 2924 Masters via wins over James Wade and Andrew Gilding.

Van den Bergh had a much easier time of it than expected against James Wade. Strangely, 'The Machine' was incredibly wasteful on the outer ring (1/16 6.3%), and although perhaps not at his best himself, van den Bergh was repeatedly on hand to punish and as such, eases into round 2 with a 6-1 win.

Reigning Masters champion, Chris Dobey got his title defence off to the perfect start against UK Open champion, Andrew Gilding with a 116 checkout in the opening leg. Despite Gilding proving typically tricky, Dobey was always the better player in the tie, eventually prevailing 6-3 with an average of just under 95.
