Glen Durrant is through to the Last 16 where he will take on Chris Dobey in a tie he has dubbed the 'Smoggy Geordie' derby and will see two friends and two players with eyes on the Premier League battle it out for a place in the 2020 PDC World Championship Quarter-Finals.
Durrant spoke afterwards and he called it a great game to be involved in
against Daryl Gurney and that he tried to make the best of it despite knowing for a fact that the crowd were waiting for Fallon Sherrock who could have been his Last 16 opponent.
He also called the idea of that prospective Premier League place as incredible and that it would be the icing on the cake for him but it's very much what will be, will be.
"I knew it was up, I knew it was down. It was a terrific game to be involved in, I am very happy. I remember looking up at 2-2 and thinking in the PDC these are the games I've got to be winning now. Polar opposite to the BDO where I used to run away, 2-0, 3-0 and go on and win it. I am incredibly happy but I am trying to keep my emotions in check," said Durrant to LiveDarts in the post match press conference.
"The crowd I could sense were waiting for Fallon (Sherrock) and I was trying to maximise that as much as possible."
"I always give an honest answer and I haven't thought about Premier League. It would be incredible, it would be the icing on the cake. All of the superlatives but if it comes it comes."
