Corrine Hammond was high up in the rankings during last year's PDC Women's Series and was in the mix for both Grand Slam of Darts and PDC World Darts Championship spots.
The hope will be that it is the same this time out but after the initial events were cancelled due to poor entry numbers, it will finally start this weekend with Hammond among the players banging the drum for the series.
"It was disappointing but then on the flipside as you say still having those events added to the other ones. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that enough ladies have been entering to be able to make it a successful series because the last thing we want to do is lose that opportunity from here on in," said Hammond on The Darts Show podcast.
"There were quite a few of us that were campaigning over the weekend, talking to everyone we knew asking have they entered, were they entering, let's get behind this let's support this."
"Hopefully over the next week or so we start seeing a lot more entries going in for it."
The Aussie thrower who is based in the UK also discussed the difference between the top players and those not wanting to participate and how there needs to be a gap bridged.
"You've probably got around 12-20 players who are quite serious about it that want to be able to have the opportunity to play at that higher level and then you've got that next mix that go I enjoy darts, I like playing, I'm quite competitive at it but I'm not really looking at doing it professionally and then you've got those who just like to go for the social side of it."
"There's quite a big mix and it's about being able to get that middle range lot of players to get them to start participating."
"If we can expand on that number (12-20) and have more consistency with the amount of women who enter these competitions, I think the future is very bright for it."
