The final has been confirmed at the
German Darts Open in Jena with
Peter Wright set to face
Dimitri van den Bergh which has a lot of intrigue for many reasons.
This includes the duo who were previously friends and had an almost master and apprentice aspect which was heavily touted by the media due to Van den Bergh staying at Wright's house during COVID.
But an interview given last week from Van den Bergh said he felt ignored after an incident at the World Matchplay.
''He did indeed take me into his house for three months, a great experience. But if you see how I'm being treated now, that's it for me. I don't spend my time with people who suddenly have no respect for me anymore. I don't expect any gesture from him, but I just want him to act normal. Maybe there is jealousy involved? No idea what's going on in his mind'', Van den Bergh said.
Wright defeated Joe Cullen 7-4 in the first semifinal. 'Snakebite' was better than Cullen in every way. Wright's average was 101.71, compared to 85.11 for Cullen. In addition, Wright recorded an excellent finish percentage of 63.6 percent, compared to 36.4 percent for Cullen.
Van den Bergh then triumphed in the second semifinal against José de Sousa. The Belgian took the win 7-3 to set it up.
