Dave Chisnall is through to the Quarter-Finals of the European Championship but for the St Helens ace, he had to change his course during his victory over Jonny Clayton.
Instead of going for the treble 20, Chisnall had to go for treble 19 and while it worked, he said it was always going to be strange with him going that route.
"It was very strange. It's going to be strange when a big 180 hitter isn't going for treble 20. If you weren't comfortable going upstairs, I go second best and go for treble 19 and it worked for me," he said to Online Darts.
"Last year I had no game, I was still giving people games and I wasn't even playing well but this year I just stuck at it. If I can't hit treble 20, I am going to go for second best. I come out fighting towards the end and started hitting the treble 20 more like I do."
Bounceouts also continued for Chisnall and he couldn't put it down to anything in particular and changed his memo as a result.
"I've had loads of bounceouts, I don't know if it's my throw or trying to adjust. But after the second break, I said throw them hard so they actually stick in the board and luckily they did."
