Luke Humphries has another title to add to his collection scooping up the
Czech Darts Open, the final
European Tour of the season in style. He thrashed
Kim Huybrechts 8-1 who spent most of the final collecting darts off the floor.
He saw the funny side throughout the contest and will be glad to have got to the final in aiding his World Championship hopes and showing that he is still very much a top player especially after his recent injury struggles.
But it is a seventh European Tour title and it is a second of the year for Humphries who was masterful in Munich and class in Czechia to end the European Tour season on a high. Especially after losing the World Grand Prix final last week.
He avenged that defeat to Mike de Decker and stopped the seemingly unstoppable train Luke Littler who was threatening one of the best weekends ever on the European Tour. But while others have done the talking in terms of giving him more credit in recent weeks, he has done so on the oche and shown why he is still the man to beat.
To start the tie, Humphries took an early break as a sign of intent pinning double 10 for 1-0. He confirmed that break with a hold to go 2-0 up. Huybrechts hit double 10 in a last dart hold of throw with Humphries waiting to break for 3-0.
Humphries missed 126 on the bull for 3-1 but returned to extend his lead. He broke again with an epic 132 checkout on the bull for 4-1. An 84 checkout for a 12-darter saw Humphries consolidate again as he was averaging 103.
A 100 checkout using treble 19, double 19 saw Humphries break again. He pinned double 18 to go one away. He hit a 58 checkout
