Wessel Nijman also won PDC
Development Tour 17 on Friday after his first day's success. With this double win, he took over first place on the Development Tour Order of Merit from Keane Barry.
Nijman was hardly troubled. He defeated Jeffrey Keen (4-1), Nathan Rafferty (4-0), Riley Rees-Tucker (4-0), Tyler Thorpe (4-2), Viktor Tingstrom (4-1), Beau Greaves (5-2) and Matt Heffer (5-0) to qualify for the final.
In the final Nijman faced Niko Springer from Germany. Springer led 0-2, but Nijman then took three legs in a row. After Springer made it 3-3, Nijman finished it off with a 13-darter and a 15-darter.
The Development Tour is the youth circuit of the PDC. This tour is open to players ages 16 through 23. Players who turn 24 during the season may continue to compete.
At each Development Tour tournament, there is a prize pool of 15,000 pounds to be divided. With the prize money, a ranking is established. At the end of the season, the numbers one and two receive an invitation to the World Darts Championship, plus a Tour Card for 2025 and 2026. The ranking winner also gets to compete in the Grand Slam of Darts.
