PDC Chief Executive,
Matt Porter has admitted that changes to the
UK Open have come solely due to practicality more than sentimental reasons going into this weekend.
Porter spoke to the Weekly Dartscast and when quizzed on why the UK Open wasn't set to be held in Bolton despite a Super Series being there, it was due to space.
"The hotel's not big enough. We create these bubbles where everyone is in and everyone is tested and nobody else is allowed in. There is 300 hotel rooms at Milton Keynes, there is only 120 at Coventry and Bolton so we have to use secondary hotels there and they are not massive either," said Porter to the Weekly Dartscast.
"So for the UK Open with the ITV production staff, all the players, all the staff - we need the best part of 300 hotel rooms. These decisions are made for practical reasons rather than potentially anything romantic about them."'
Moving to Milton Keynes has meant it has reverted to all eight boards in the same reason and Porter added it was for similar reasons.
"There was nowhere else to put them. It's a great big arena at Milton Keynes with plenty of space so all the boards will go in there. That'll look good on TV and the event will be good for people to watch."
"It's an eight board event with a big stage and a little stage and six cubicle size mini stages so they have to go where they have to go."
