The World Matchplay is taking place on it's original dates of 18-26 July but the venue is still unknown with a decision based on crowds to be taken nearer to the tournament known as the second biggest on the PDC calendar.
Earlier on Friday, it was announced that the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes would host the PDC Summer Series; which will see five days in a row of
Players Championship action.
A venue that has worked well in recent times for Matchroom's Championship League Snooker; it could yet be utilised for the
World Matchplay.
With
Matt Porter, Chief Executive of the PDC hinting at this in a recent interview detailing why it would be 'perfect'.
“The Marshall Arena is the perfect location to create a bubble venue. Hotel on site; arena on-site excellent transport links and centrally located," said Porter
in conversation with Phill Barrs for Online Darts.
“We get on very well with the management team; they are fully on board with what we are trying to achieve.
“It’s a venue we know works for darts in normal circumstances; we believe it’s a venue that could work for darts in abnormal circumstances.”
