The weekend after his World Seniors Darts Masters triumph, David Cameron returned to action against
Gerwyn Price but it was ‘The Iceman’ who overcame a tough test to begin his
US Darts Masters campaign. He sealed it 6-4 with a 112 checkout.
To begin the tie, Cameron pushed Price on his throw but he couldn’t get a shot at 167 and ‘The Iceman’ sealed double 10 to hold. He missed the chance at 105 to break and Cameron held on double 20.
Price set up 40 from 94 with Cameron not pinning 131 and he went 2-1 up. Price was sat on double 20 to break and Cameron hit a 124 on the bull to hold letting out a roar of his own.
Price missed a dart to break at double 20 but Cameron drift into the single 15 on 90 allowing ‘The Iceman’ to return as he looked to go one away at 4-2 up.
But an 81 checkout for a 12-darter saw Cameron broke and he pinned double 10 to hold and level up at 4-4. Cameron hit a 177 and missed a dart at an 80 checkout and Price hit double eight to go one away at 5-4. ‘Excalibur’ sat on 60 to send it all the way and Price hit a 112 checkout to seal it.
Next up will be his World Cup partner,
Jonny Clayton who will join him in Frankfurt for Wales in a few weeks but will renew their singles rivalry tomorrow in New York who prevailed in a rapid fire clash with Danny Lauby 6-2.
To begin the tie, Clayton produced a timely 180 but missed seven darts for a hold only for Lauby to spurn multiple visits to break and finally ‘The Ferret’ sealed the madhouse.
There was no issues on the doubles to break as Clayton hit double 18 for a 61 checkout to lead 2-0. He handed Lauby a break chance in a 62 checkout and quick as a flash, he made it 2-1.
A 78 checkout saw Clayton go 3-1 up with a break back as he didn’t give Lauby a shot at 84. A 150 left 55 for Clayton as he held for a 4-1 lead. Lauby held to make it 4-2 but Clayton was throwing to go one away and made it 5-2.
Lauby missed the bull for a 124 checkout and Clayton readjusted from 88 to seal it.
