Haupai Puha has made an excellent start to the World Series of Darts Finals. The New Zealander defeated Graham Usher 6-3 in the opening round and now gets to take on Peter Wright.
Puha admits he surprised himself. "I'm still shaking now! I can't believe I was good enough to win that," he said in conversation with Online Darts post-match. "The crowd getting on the back of those doubles didn't make it easy but I was glad my ones went in."
"It took me the whole time to get my body clock to get to where it needed to be," Puha continues, referencing the jetlag troubles that come after such a long flight. "36 hour flight wasn't the best but I had a good sleep last night and woke up at 6am so the body seems back to normal."
Puha is seeded for the WDF World Championship, but still hopes to qualify for the PDC World Darts Championship. "If that works out I will definitely choose the PDC World Championship," said Puha. "This tournament is a good test, but my main goals are later this year and early next year. Then I hope to capture a Tour Card at Q-School."
