One of the big surprises from European Q-school at the start of this year,
Pascal Rupprecht, who taught himself to play darts through watching videos on YouTube, admits he's been surprised himself by his rapid rise.
"I started about two years ago, at the beginning of 2021," Rupprecht tells Dan Dawson for the Darts Show Podcast. "I started playing before watching darts actually. I didn't play very much in the beginning but once I started playing more I got better and better."
Alongside his darting career, Rupprecht is also a trainee police officer back home in his native Germany. "At the moment it's good, I can handle playing darts and work. At the weekends I play darts then when I go home I go directly to work," he explains.
As mentioned, Rupprecht was one of the big surprises at Q-school this year, achieving his Tour Card at the first attempt. "I felt good but I didn't actually think I could get a Tour Card," he tells Dawson. "I knew that with a little bit of luck it could happen but I also knew that the level of players is very very high at Q-school.
"When I first was in Barnsley for the Players Championship I realised that I actually play with the best players in the world and it feels a little bit weird still," he laughs. "It's not easy but I searched a lot on the internet because I really wanted to get better, especially when I started tournaments."
"I always wanted to win so I tried my best to get better and see what could I do to my technique, how could I score better and especially with my concentration and nerves."
