Van Gerwen and Wright dumped out at first hurdle of Players Championship 1, huge averages for Van den Bergh and Heta

The first round has begun at Players Championship 1 with multiple big names already out at the very first hurdle to begin the ProTour season.
Among them are Peter Wright who was first on the streaming board and lost out to Steve Beaton in a 6-2 win for 'The Bronzed Adonis' who reach the last ProTour final of 2022 and averaged 103 in victory.
Michael van Gerwen also narrowly lost out 6-5 to compatriot Geert Nentjes, while Joe Cullen and Jose de Sousa also lost out.
There have been wins for Dirk van Duijvenbode, top seed Luke Humphries, Rob Cross, Jonny Clayton, Josh Rock, Nathan Aspinall and Danny Noppert.
As well as top averages for ProTour standout, Damon Heta who averaged 108 in easing past Ryan Meikle 6-0. Dimitri van den Bergh produced the best yet with 109 in seeing off Robert Owen who averaged 100 in defeat.
