Van Gerwen asked about best match ever he has played in: "My game against Van Barneveld in the World Championship"

Michael van Gerwen has since built an impressive list of honours, but what does he himself consider his best match ever?

That question was put to Van Gerwen by a darts fan. "I've been involved in a lot of good games back in the day with Phil Taylor but recently of course the final with Michael Smith being great.

"But probably my greatest game ever is my game against Raymond van Barneveld in the World Championship where we both had some record breaking averages."

Taking place in 2017, it saw Van Gerwen average 114.05, while for Van Barneveld, he produced a mark of 109.34. One of the highest losing averages in history for Barney, it was the current king vs the former king of Dutch Darts.
