Michael van Gerwen captured his third
European Tour title for 2022 on Sunday evening by beating Dimitri van den Bergh 8-5 in the
European Darts Open final.
He had already won in Hildesheim and Graz earlier in the season. In Leverkusen, Germany, Van Gerwen was able to add a Euro Tour to his collection for the 35th time in his career.
Mighty Mike had started the tournament on Saturday with a win over Daryl Gurney thanks to an average of almost 114. He then dealt with Jonny Clayton (6-4), Dirk van Duijvenbode (6-5) and Luke Humphries (7-2). He then prevented Van den Bergh from winning his first Euro Tour title.
"It was really hard and I'm glad I won," said Van Gerwen.
"Dimitri is a phenomenal player, he always pushes me and he's a good player and a good guy. Sometimes he's a bit naive but I like him, and I think he's good for darts.
"The crowd today were phenomenal and I can't wish for anything more. It's always amazing in Leverkusen."
