Van Gerwen looks back at maiden PDC World Darts Championship triumph: "I think a lot of frustration came out"

Michael van Gerwen looked back at past memories of the PDC World Darts Championship during a recent feature with the PDC with two moments in particular sticking out.

The first being losing to Phil Taylor back in 2008 on debut when he lost 3-2.

"I can remember I missed a few darts against Phil Taylor to go 2-1 up in sets," said Van Gerwen.

"Games against Phil Taylor were always incredible. We always had good battles. Some I won, some I lost but overall I can't complain too much."

Followed by his maiden triumph in 2014 when he defeated Peter Wright after losing in the final the year before to Phil Taylor.

"There's always a lot of pressure on your shoulders but of course it gets how long it takes before you win the World Championship, how frustrating it's going to get for yourself. At that point, I think a lot of frustration came out."

"It's always nice to win the title but three times is not what a lot of people have done. Three PDC titles, only one other Phil Taylor, that's it. There's still a lot in the tank, I know there's a lot more to come."
