The final of the 2022
Austrian Darts Open will be contested between two Dutchman who have a lot of recent history with each other in
Danny Noppert and
Michael van Gerwen.
Likely to be World Cup of Darts partners once more, they will face off for the latest
European Tour title in Graz.
'The Freeze' though has had the number of 'Mighty Mike' as of late though defeating him on the ProTour, International Darts Open and World Grand Prix in a period which has seen Noppert become a major champion at the UK Open.
For MVG though, if he plays like he did in his semi-final against Stephen Bunting, it could be another defeat to his compatriot.
He won through 7-5 with an average of only 92 in the end with Bunting suffering with his darts constantly slipping and also breaking throw but not being able to consolidate on throw which allowed MVG a double break at 5-3 up.
Bunting did return to the foray making it 6-5 but again in a leg where he had the throw, he struggled to hold and MVG broke to not allow it to go all the way.
While for Noppert, it was a lot more convincing as despite averaging only 90 in the end. He breezed past Nathan Aspinall in a 7-2 win with 'The Asp' down at 81 with the difference in scoring showing.
This allowed Noppert 23 darts at double throughout the whole contest compared to only three for Aspinall converting on two opportunities.
But it is new ground for Noppert who makes his maiden European Tour final and he will now look to topple the forerunner this season.
