Simon Whitlock will not be seen at the World Darts Championship for the first time since 2009 this year. The Australian darts legend did not have a good Pro Tour season and then also failed to qualify through the final qualifier for the remaing Tour Card holders. So that also means Whitlock is very likely to lose his PDC Tour Card and will have to go to Q-School in January to earn back his spot on the Pro Tour.
Vincent van der Voort already knows for sure that he is going to lose his Tour Card. ‘The Dutch Destroyer’ appeared on the PDC circuit at about the same time as Whitlock and has had some great adventures with Whitlock over the years, Van der Voort told Sportnieuws.nl's podcast Darts Draait Door.
‘’We were in Australia at the time just passing by his house,‘’ the 48-year-old Dutchman began his first anecdote. ‘’And then he is busy in the garden, we went to see what he was doing, and then he stands all afternoon catching frogs and insects. He's absolutely crazy about that kind of thing,’ Van der Voort continued.
‘His whole house is full of fish aquariums,’ “Fast Vinnie” continued. ‘A dartboard hangs there. And the television is on some gambling site. Or some slot machine. And on his phone he's playing that too. Not for money. Just pressing. And then: ‘Yeah, jackpot’. He really is a very special man. With his animals and all, he's completely crazy about them.'
‘He was also once bitten by a snake and he also showed that of ‘this one's not so very bad’ and all that stuff. I said, ‘well, I'm fine with you lad, I'm out of here’. Super nice guy,’ Van der Voort said.
Another special trait about Whitlock is that ‘The Wizard’ almost always wears shorts in daily life. ‘Heart of winter just always in shorts. He just never puts on long trousers. Heart of winter he was in shorts with a hoodie on. Nice guy,‘’ Van der Voort concluded his anecdotes about Whitlock.
