David Cameron dumped out Kevin Painter on the opening night at the World Seniors Darts Masters and has beaten the man who saw off 'The Artist' en route to winning the World Championship at the Circus Tavern, Robert Thornton.

Many expected potentially a repeat display from 'The Thorn' this weekend in Frimley Green but it was 'Excalibur' who rose to the occasion completing a 4-2 win to reach the Quarter-Finals.

In the opening set, Cameron had to weather a barrage from Thornton who was averaging around the 100 mark including claiming a 125 checkout to go 1-0 up. But despite a 180, 123 and 138, Thornton saw Cameron hold to begin set two and with the short sharp format, he made it 1-1 with an 87 checkout.

From there, it was plain sailing for Cameron despite some good darts from Thornton but he missed match darts allowing Thornton another chance. Only for Cameron to seal it in the requisite set with a 62 checkout.

Richie Howson also returned to the stage for the second time today and saw off Trina Gulliver 4-1 to book his place in the Quarter-Finals.

To begin the tie, he took two sets without reply against 'The Golden Girl'. Gulliver finally registered a leg in the form of a break to begin set three but couldn't continue in the vein and Howson made it 3-0.

But he took his foot off the gas allowing Gulliver to take a set with a 100 checkout in the decider of set four and she missed a chance at 160 in the requisite set to steal another and ask the question. Instead though it is 'The Owl' into the final day.
